本研究は、「室内楽」という語の概念史の試みである。
これまで音楽史書では、19世紀の室内楽はもっぱら古典主義的傾向の下にあると見なされてきた。しかし実のところ、19世紀の前衛派の「室内楽」はあまり顧みられてこなかった。
そこで本研究は、特に「新ドイツ派」の実践と音楽観に注目する。音楽雑誌の記述、大規模な新作発表会であった「全独音楽家協会 (ADMV) 音楽家年次集会」におけるコンサートやプログラムノートなどを調査対象として、「室内楽」の多様な取り組みを明らかにする。そこで改めて「室内楽」という概念の孕む問題を考え、これに代わる新たな、あるいはより詳細な枠組を見出すことを目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research a comprehensive database encompassing the entire repertoire of chamber music concerts from the first (1859) to the 38th (1902) Tonkuenstlerversammlung (musicians assembly) of the Allgemeiner deutscher Musikverein (General German Music Association) has been compiled. It has been ascertained that vocal music, vocal compositions, particularly solo songs, constituted a predominant portion of these concerts.Although F. Draeseke (1835-1913), L. v. Beethoven (1770-1827) and E. Lassen (1830-1904) were the significant composers for the instrumental literature besides J. Brahms (1833-1897), the majority of works by other composers did not endure in the repertoire over time. Additionally, this research has contributed to a more profound comprehension of the origins of the term "New German School", and the evolution of the concept "school" within the realm of music historiography.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の意義は、従来の音楽史記述の見直しに関わり、以下の通り大きく2点ある。
第一に、従来の音楽史において、ブラームスと「新ドイツ派」の関係は良好でなかったとされ、盛期ロマン主義の音楽美学が党派論争として語られる傾向があった。しかし、TVにおいてブラームスの作品が繰り返し取り上げられたことは、当時の音楽創作が実際には党派論争に収まりきらないものであることを示唆している。
第二に、「楽派」という語の意味の歴史的変遷を通じて、これまで曖昧に、あるいは恣意的に用いられてきたこの語が、音楽史記述のための概念であることが明確になった。
