| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、『西行物語』の諸本について、国文学だけではなく国語学の見地からも含め横断的な分析を、コーパスを用いて明らかにしようとするものである。『西行物語』は、諸本が多く、系統によって本文の内容も異なるため、全体像を知ることが難しい。そのために、『西行物語』のコーパスの構築を行い、『西行物語』の本文に関する情報を明らかにする。これに基づいて、文学研究の一環として、本文の検討を行うことを目指す。さらに、コーパス研究の進んでいる国語学の分野からのアプローチも試み、文学研究にフィードバックし、『西行物語』の進展を目指す。具体的には、各系統の中の異同や、それぞれの本文の特徴を明らかにすることを目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research, as part of our ongoing literary and linguistic research, we have augmented the previously developed parallel corpus by adding 5 more variants of “Saigyo Monogatari” in order to carry out text correction and interpretation and, in turn, to get a better picture of the entirety of the work.
Using this parallel corpus based on the texts of the 10 variants from “Saigyo Monogatari,” we were able to examine the differences between various books of the same lineage by comparing them with multiple lineages of “Saigyo Monogatari.” As a result, while clarifying the quantitative features of the vocabulary in “Saigyo Monogatari,” we were able to know the difference in scene composition and content, the difference in the degree of depiction (information content), and the difference in the description style. Furthermore, with this research, it has become possible to compare Saigyo’s waka (poems) and their introductory comments with “Saigyo Momogatari.”

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の実施により、日本文学と日本語学のジャンルからの分析が可能になる。また、テキストの本文に忠実なコーパスの作成を行うことにより、『西行物語』の諸本について、データ化を行い、語レベルまで分析ができる本文の比較検討ができる。また、西行の私家集である『山家集』『西行法師歌集』のコーパスの作成により、『西行物語』に収録されている和歌についても、実際の西行詠と語レベルまで比較検討することができる。
これらの調査により、『西行物語』の伝本の系統の特徴、相関関係などについて分析が可能になり、『西行物語』の全貌に迫ることが可能となる。
