Outline of Research at the Start |
1. Collect and compile diplomatic writing for United Nations main bodies. 2. Analyze data on diplomatic writing using both quantitative and qualitative analysis. 3. Develop, pilot and evaluate diplomatic writing 4. Share diplomatic writing training materials through publications and presentations.
|
Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To rectify this gap in empirically grounded materials and methods for the teaching of diplomatic writing using a genre approach to illustrate the deficit in recurrent grammar and phrase patterns, and function and purpose of the content in student generated Model United Nations resolutions and United Nations resolutions on the same agendas and committees. In 2023, data was collected and is being analyzed from the Japan University Model United Nations July 7-9 for the Economic and Social Council, and at two international Model United Nations Conferences: National Model United Nations in New York April 2-5, for the Security Council, General Assembly, and Economic and Social Council committees, and in Germany November 22-24, for the Security Council and General Assembly committees.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
Our research is progressing rather smoothly with the extension of the grant due to the COVID pandemic. We are now able to attend Model United Nations conferences in person. We hosted the JUEMUN conference in July 2023 after hosting NMUN Japan 2022 so we had to devote time to conference organization in addition to researching. Without the conferences though there would be less data for the research.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This year we will complete data analysis, continue to present at conferences and do out best to publish our research results and have our findings applied to classroom practice of teaching diplomatic writing.
