| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究では、少年法制史とは観点を変え、社会事業史の観点から戦後の少年矯正施策を概観しながら、戦前・戦中・戦後を通じて活躍した少年院職員の矯正教育観を分析し、少年矯正の戦前と戦後の連続性と非連続性を明らかにしつつ、矯正教育の原理を析出することを目的とする。
その上で、今一度、戦前・戦中・戦後の通史的観点から矯正教育の原理を辿り、過渡期を迎えつつある今後の少年矯正の方途を検討、創造していく視点を提供する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I elucidated three points by exploring the historical process of correctional education in Japan.
First, pre-war juvenile justice practitioners’and juvenile training school staff’s critique of separating protection decisions and enforcement were clarified. This opinion differs from the Juvenile Act commentary books. Second, I analyzed the connection points between the separate institutional treatment through scientific assessment in pre-war and the type of juvenile training schools under the Juvenile Training School Act. Meanwhile, the pre-war correctional education perspective was weakened in the 1980s. Third, I explained that juvenile justice practice is positioned in multiple fields, so it is required to construct the common principle of juvenile protection between education, social welfare, and juvenile law.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の学術的意義は、司法、福祉、教育領域で個別に検討されてきた少年司法・少年矯正の課題について、各領域の実践史・学説史を辿りながら、領域間の「隙間」・「谷間」を埋め、そこに通底する「立ち直り・更生（甦り）の論理」を描き出し、それを「甦育」論として独自に打ち立てた点である。また、社会的意義としては、少年法制100周年と併せて、国内の少年司法実践通史を整理し、その到達点と今後の展望を示しつつ、諸外国の少年司法実践史との比較分析の基礎資料を提供した点である。
