| Outline of Research at the Start |
認知的枠組みとしてのスクリプトの獲得・発達プロセスには、周囲の人との直接的なやりとりに加え、子ども時代に聞く物語も影響していることが示唆されている。本研究では、日本を含む3カ国の児童書（絵本や童話）に描かれる物語を取り上げ、スクリプト（物語スキーマ）の普遍性と文化固有性について検討を行う。また、書物を媒介する大人として、親に着目し、親の読書（読み聞かせ）に対する信念や実践、物語スキーマについても調査を行う。これらのことにより、子どもを取り巻く発達環境のマイクロシステム（書物、親）、メゾシステム（書物を媒介する親）、マクロシステム（文化）の関係性を明らかにする。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research compared American and Japanese children's books in terms of cultural story schemas. Overall,169 American books and 182 Japanese books were selected as popular children's books, based on recommendation lists by public libraries in each culture. As a result of structured content analysis, American books were more likely to have a happy ending and to focus on individuality than Japanese books. Japanese books included not only a happy ending but also a sad ending such as death and separation. The books for older children tended to deal with more serious themes in each culture, including diversity and anti-discrimination in American books, and war and self-sacrifice in Japanese books.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
日本と米国の児童書の内容分析を通して、物語スキーマの共通性と差異を見出すことができた。児童書は子どもを社会化・文化化する機能をもっていると考えられることから、これらの知見は日米の子どもの語り（スクリプト）の違いを理解する上で重要な知見になると思われる。
