| Outline of Research at the Start |
自然現象を人に例えるといった擬人化を用いた説明は日常的に行われているが，擬人化が説明文の理解に及ぼす影響と認知過程は不明な点が多い。本研究では，認知の二重過程理論の枠組みをもとに，擬人化された説明文が直感的でヒューリスティックに基づく説明文理解を促進するか，熟慮的な深い説明文理解を促進するかを検討する。本研究を行うことで，「人らしい」対象がどのような認知過程を喚起するかを明らかにし，科学教育等における擬人化の適切な利用についての知見を提供することが期待できる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present study examined the effect of anthropomorphism on scientific explanation comprehension in relation to the acceptance of nonscientific teleological explanations that natural phenomena exist with an intention or purpose. The results of the study revealed that anthropomorphic tendency, intuitive thinking tendency, and time pressure load promote the acceptance of nonscientific teleological explanations, while deliberative thinking tendency suppresses the acceptance of teleological explanations. On the other hand, the use of anthropomorphic illustrations may not have a direct effect on the acceptance of teleological explanations. It was suggested that the acceptance of non-scientific teleology may be strongly influenced not by external cues such as illustrations, but by individual thinking tendencies such as anthropomorphic tendencies, deliberativeness, and thinking styles.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
事象の説明に擬人化を用いることはしばしば行われており、先行研究では、擬人化が認知的努力を刺激して理解を深めるという知見と、直感的な処理を促進するという相反する知見が報告されている。本研究の学術的意義は、擬人化および直感性が、非科学的な目的論の受容を促進し、熟慮性が目的論の受容を抑制するという、擬人化が文理解に及ぼす影響の一部を明らかにしたことである。また、目的論的信念の受容には、擬人化されたイラストは影響せず、個人の擬人化傾向や直感的思考の影響が大きいことなを示した。こうした知見は、科学教育の場での擬人化の適切な利用に応用可能であり、社会的意義があると考えられる。
