Outline of Research at the Start

アソシエーションスキームに付随する Bose-Mesner代数の二つの基底 {A_i}, {E_i} の双対構造から得られる線形計画限界は,符号理論・デザイン理論において良い特徴づけを与えてきた(Delsarte理論).重要なクラスにP多項式スキーム・Q多項式スキームがあり,それらの無限集合版であるランク1対称空間・無限距離正則グラフを,Bose-Mesner代数の生成元の個数の観点から一般化し,無限アソシエーションスキームを定義したい.無限アソシエーションスキーム上でDelsarte理論を確立し,より統一的な視点から符号理論・デザイン理論を再構築する.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The Delsarte theory provides a unified framework for coding theory and design theory based on association schemes. Quotient graphs of infinite distance-regular graphs become regular uniform hypergraphs. By obtaining an analogue of the Delsarte theory for infinite distance-regular graphs, we established linear programming bounds for regular uniform hypergraphs. As one application, we improved several known results regarding the upper bound on the number of vertices when the second eigenvalue is fixed.

For good finite sets on the sphere, such as s-distance sets and spherical t-designs, we derived several characterizations and results. In particular, we demonstrated that the regular dodecahedron has the maximum number of vertices as a 5-distance set and proved its uniqueness.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

グラフの第二固有値が小さく頂点数が大きいグラフは,ある種の連結性を保証し,ネットワーク設計などの応用上も重要な対象となる(エクスパンダーグラフなど).今回の研究成果のひとつである第二固有値を固定したときの正則グラフの頂点数に対する上界は,そのようなグラフの基礎研究に貢献するものになることが十分期待できる.
正十二面体が最大5距離集合として一意的であることは,少なくとも25年以上未解決として知られていた離散数学の問題であった.s距離集合や球面tデザインなどの球面有限集合の特徴づけについては,デルサルト理論との関係も深く,代数構造の応用や発見への貢献が期待される.
