Outline of Research at the Start

スターバーストは銀河の形成進化の推進力であるが、その発現条件や、通常の星形成とは異なる特徴的な性質の起源はまだ十分に明らかになっていない。その原因のひとつが、スターバーストの星形成率やその母体になる星間物質の諸性質の測定における不定性である。この状況を打破するため、超広帯域電波観測データに対して新たに開発する解析手法を適用し、星形成率と星間物質質量、さらに星間物質の物理的性質、ひいては星形成則を高精度で決定する。高い信頼度で星形成則および星間物質の特徴を明らかにすることは、銀河中心核におけるスターバーストの発現機構解明の有効な手掛かりとなる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

近傍銀河NGC253の中心核における星形成則と星間物質の性質をかつてない高い精度で決定し、スターバーストの起源を探ることが本研究の目的である。電波望遠鏡観測データに対して新たな処理・解析手法を開発し適用することによって、星形成活動の規模とその母体となる星間物質質量を高い精度で決定し、ひいては星形成則を高精度で導出することが本研究の目標である。
本年度は、新しい解析手法であるスペクトル画像データに含まれる分子・原子スペクトル輝線と連続波の分離手法の開発を継続し、ソフトウェアの実装を行った。従来手法(スペクト画像の統計量のみを用いる)と比較して分離精度をさらに改善するために原因調査と手法の改善を継続した。
アルマ望遠鏡による国際大型観測プログラムによるNGC 253銀河の観測データについては、従来手法を用いて処理済みデータの解析が進められ、Tanaka他(2024)が出版された。本論文では、階層ベイズモデルを適用した非局所熱力学平衡解析を行うことで、NGC 253中心核において分子ガスの主要な物理パラメータである密度と温度を27パーセク(約90光年)という高い空間分解能で推定することに成功した。同様の解析が行われている天の川銀河と比較すると、NGC 253には天の川銀河には存在しない高密度の分子ガスが存在していることも明らかになった。高密度分子ガスの存在の有無が、NGC 253(スターバースト有り)と天の川銀河(スターバースト無し)の違いを生む鍵となる要因であると結論付けた。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

「研究実績の概要」でも述べたように、新しい解析手法を用いたソフトウェアの完成が遅れたため、電波連続波エネルギー分布や連続波を除いた輝線スペクトルの確定も当初予定よりも遅れた。
当年度中には天体観測データの処理、解析結果の解釈と議論を効率的に進めるため、観測データが所在する日本(国立天文台)に国外の研究協力者に来訪していただき数週間の滞在中に共同作業を行う予定であった。しかしながら、当該研究者が異動し共同研究の遂行が困難になったため招請を断念した。代替策として他の研究協力者との対面およびテレビ会議による研究打合せを行い作業を進めたが、効率の低下は避けられず、データ解析および論文作成の遅れという結果を招いた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度中に未完了となった、新しい手法に基づいて天体観測画像データを処理し、輝線と連続波の分離を実現する解析ソフトウェアは、次年度はじめには完成する予定である。次年度の残りの期間で解析を実行して結果の早急な公表を目指す。
