Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
We conducted research into the mechanisms of plastic changes in the brain in response to intractable pain and complex regional pain syndrome. Through brain function analysis using electroencephalogram and magnetoencephalogram measurements, we were able to discover areas of the brain that change and are different in intractable pain patients compared to healthy individuals. We also discovered a correlation between the patient's subjective pain indicators and brain function. By applying these techniques, it has become possible to more objectively evaluate chronic pain, which could not be captured by subjective evaluation. Furthermore, by applying them to electroencephalograms, it may become possible to measure pain in actual clinical practice.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
