| Outline of Research at the Start |
日本には病的賭博者が320万人いると推定されている（厚生労働省, 2017)。しかし、実際に治療を受けている賭博者は1万人にも満たない。そのため、約99％の病的賭博者は適切な治療を受けられていない。本研究では、S(Screening), BI(Brief Intervention), RT(Refer to Treatment)モデルをスマートフォンのアプリケーションとして作成し、未治療の病的賭博者をスマートフォン上で早期発見、介入、紹介が出来る新たな治療法を提案する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We conducted a screening survey of pathological gamblers among prison inmates in Japan and examined the percentage of pathological gamblers among prison inmates and association between their criminal behavior and pathological gambling. We also analyzed the chat contents and social networks of participants in a Japanese online self-help group (a chat group where pathological gamblers talk to each other to stop their own gambling behavior) that has been in existence for more than 10 years.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究の結果から、匿名・非対面をベースにしたネット上の自助グループでも病的賭博者に対する治療効果が期待しうることが分かった。ただし、これらの結果は相関関係を示唆したに過ぎず、因果関係を示してはいない。2022年以降の研究（基盤研究(B)22H01094：アバターと自律エージェントによる行動嗜癖の治療とその神経基盤の解明）ではこの点を明らかにするため、治療的介入を無作為化対照試験のデザインで実施していく。
