2019年度は富山市、下川町、ニセコ町、横浜市の環境政策に関する市民の認知度・環境配慮行動の調査を実施する。文献研究・市町村とのヒアリングを通してアンケート項目を特定化する。調査結果を踏まえ、市町村や市民団体とインタビュー調査を通して意見交換を行い、政策推進に向けて協議する。2020年度は東松島市、つくば市、堺市、小国町に対して同様の調査研究・成果発信を行う。2021年度の前期は各環境都市から得られた知見から比較分析を行い、他の環境都市に応用可能な環境政策の評価軸および促進法の特定化を行う。後期は得られた成果を取りまとめ、国内外の学会および学術誌において発表する。

2023年度は本科研究費（19K12451）の助成を受け、日本のエネルギー転換をテーマにした重要な書籍「Smart Cities in Japan's Energy Transition」の執筆に携わった。本書は、Maciej M. Sokolowski氏の編集により、Routledge出版から発行される。私は、この書籍の中で2つの章「Energy transition in Japan's SDGs Future Cities: Toyama, Sapporo, and Kumamoto」および「Can Toyota's Woven City be considered a smart city?」を執筆した。これらの章では、持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）とエネルギー転換を日本の各都市がどのように取り組んでいるか、特に富山、札幌、熊本の事例を通じて詳細に掘り下げ、またトヨタのウーブンシティがスマートシティの概念にどのように適合するか、あるいは適合しないかについて論じている。この書籍は、2024年度中に出版される予定である。さらに、別の学術的貢献として「Handbook of Field Research」においても1章を担当した。Daniel Hammett氏が編集するこの書籍は、同じくRouteledgeから出版される。「Ethical consideration of whether, how, and for whom」というタイトルで、フィールドリサーチにおける倫理的な考慮点を深く探求している。特に、研究の対象者、方法、そして研究成果が誰にとって利益をもたらすのかという問題を扱っている。この書籍も、同じく2024年度中に出版される見込みである。これらの書籍の執筆により、スマートシティの開発とエネルギー転換、そして研究倫理に関する現代の議論に対して、貢献する。

上記書籍執筆のための調査として、主に以下の都市（富山市、札幌市、熊本市、裾野市）を訪問し、市の担当者にインタビューを行った。またそのための文献研究として、主に以下の書籍を購入し、論文の執筆に活用した。鈴木悌介（2020）エネルギーから経済を考えるSDGs実践編 扶桑社、柏木孝夫（2018）超スマートエネルギー社会5.0 エネルギーフォーラム、Afonso, J. L. 2024年度中に出版される予定である書籍「Smart Cities in Japan's Energy Transition」（Maciej M. Sokolowski編）の中の２章「Energy transition in Japan's SDGs Future Cities: Toyama, Sapporo, and Kumamoto」および「Can Toyota's Woven City be considered a smart city?」に関して、査読者からのコメントに応じて加筆修正を行う。また別の書籍「Handbook of Field Research」の一章「Ethical consideration of whether, how, and for whom」に関しても、やはり査読者からのコメントに応じて加筆修正を行い、2024年度中の出版を行う。
