Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、第4次産業革命やソサエティ5.0への移行という社会的課題を達成するためのイノベーションの実現に向けてSTEM・人文社会科学・芸術を統合した文理融合教育を、日米の学士過程教育を事例として比較し、次世代型コンピテンスを把握する。専門に拘泥された構造の克服を行い、文理融合を実現し、次世代型コンピテンスを習得するという課題は現在の日本の大学教育が直面している大きな課題である。本研究では文理融合という視点からSTEMと人文・社会・芸術系との学際型教育プログラムを日米で比較 検証するために、日米への教員や学生への面接調査と日本の産業界で働く大学卒業生へのWEB調査を研究方法として実施する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Today, the Information Society is spreading at an accelerated pace, resulting in education and social systems becoming increasingly globalized and focused on the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields that drive technological advances. Despite this current focus, this research shows that faculty and students can still benefit significantly from exposure to interdisciplinary and multicultural studies. This research evidences this by examining surveys and interviews of domestic and international students and faculty to demonstrate how mixing STEM fields with the liberal arts and non-technical education components can significantly contribute to effective learning. Such rounded skillsets especially extend to real-world problem-solving and workplace situations students face after graduation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、日本においてSTEM分野人材の需要が高まる中、学際教育の必要性、専門分野以外の異なる学問領域への俯瞰力と知識を獲得する必要性について検討した。その中で分野を問わず、例え学問の手法、学びのプロセス、アプローチする姿勢等に違いが認められるものの、科学的態度や思考は学びの根幹として、諸分野で共有しているということが、国内外のデータをもとに示すことができた。国境を超えて人々のつながりが進む中、今後の学問のあり方として、異分野での学び、学際性、また文理融合を通して幅広く学ぶ姿勢の重要さが、より今後の知識基盤社会に重要になっていく。
