| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、高等教育交流においてどのような知の交流がおこなわれているのかを明らかにし、その交流がもたらす外交的機能を探求する。これまで、教育は文化の一部という位置付けのもと、文化的な外交の一部として認識される傾向があった。しかし、高等教育交流にはその概念に留まらない独自の特徴を有する。本研究では、既存概念との位置付けが不明確であった高等教育交流の外交的機能を探求することを目指す。

| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
2023年度は、これまでの研究成果を発信することに取り組んだ。その成果として、次の3点が挙げられる。第一に、東アジアおよび東南アジア地域の高等教育の国際化をテーマとした書籍（East and Southeast Asian Perspectives on the Internationalisation of Higher Education Policies, Practices and Prospects）において、日本を事例に国際高等教育交流の1つの形態であるトランスナショナル教育について焦点を当てた1章分をJane Knight氏、太田浩氏と分担執筆した。第二に、グローバルサウス諸国からの留学生の留学先国・地域での就職をテーマとした書籍（International Student Employability: Narratives of Strengths, Challenges, and Strategies from Global South Students）において、日本国内のETPで学んだ留学生の就職に関する現状と課題について分析した1章分をPhillip Pappano III氏と分担執筆した。第三に、2024年3月にアメリカのマイアミで開催された北米比較・国際教育学会（Comparative and International Education Society）において、2022年に出版した単著書籍（International Higher Education in Citizen Diplomacy）について発表した。また、当該学会の規則により複数回の発表ができなかったため、発表者を共著者のPappano氏として（研究代表者は発表者グループには登録されている）、上記の日本のETPで学んだ留学生の日本での就職に関する現状と課題について発表した。
