Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、教育達成が必ずしも労働市場や結婚市場と結びつかない中東湾岸社会における女性の高学歴化現象とその社会的背景を明らかにし、その原因の究明に迫るものである。
中東湾岸諸国において男性を上回る女性の高学歴化が確認されている。しかし、その要因は従来の欧米と東アジアにおける知見ではとらえきれない。なぜ女性を中心に高学歴化が進むのか、彼女らを高等教育へと突き動かす中東ならではの別な要因が存在するのではないか。本研究課題はこれら問いに答えるものである。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、サウジアラビア、アラブ首長国連邦、クウェートの3か国でのフィールドワークを通じて、女性を中心とした高学歴化の現状とその要因を明らかにすることを目的としていた。1年目のサウジアラビアにおけるフィールドワークは当初の計画通り実施できたが、2年目以降続く新型コロナウイルス感染症の流行拡大に伴う海外渡航および調査対象国の入国規制により、予定していた調査の中止を余儀なくされた。そこで、調査対象国をカタールに変更し、現地の大学と共同でカタール人を対象にしたアンケート調査とインタビュー調査を進めた。サウジアラビアとカタールは政治・経済・社会の構造が類似していることから、これまで両国の高等教育の現象は中東湾岸諸国全体として語られてきた。しかし、両国は人口構成とそれによる労働市場の内情が異なっており、本研究でその差が教育現象に及ぼす影響を明らかにできたことは、当該地域の高等教育現象の解釈を豊かにするものであったと考える。
研究最終年度であった本年度は、サウジアラビアのインタビュー調査データとカタールのアンケート調査、インタビュー調査データの分析を行った。詳しくは、両国の比較研究の枠組み深めるべく、韓国の教育学会と教育社会学会、日本の教育社会学会に参加し、情報収集と比較研究の専門家との意見交換を行った。また、カタール大学で行われた高等教育のワークショップにて研究成果の一部を発表し、現地の専門家との共同研究に関する話し合いや論文執筆のための研究資料を収集した。研究期間中、予期せぬ事態により計画通りの研究成果発表は遅れているものの、今後引き続き、本研究で収集したデータの分析と文章化を進めており、所属学会の紀要や当該テーマを扱う海外のエディテッドボリューム等に研究論文を投稿する予定である。
