Outline of Research at the Start

インスリンの欠乏は、糖尿病の主な原因の一つである。インスリンは、膵臓β細胞で合成される。これまで、インスリンの合成酵素は明らかになっていない。本研究では、インスリンの合成酵素を同定することを目的とする。まず、様々な手法を用い、インスリンの合成酵素の候補を探索する。つぎに、それらの候補の遺伝子を膵臓β細胞で欠損させ、インスリンの合成を解析する。そして、インスリンの合成に必須の酵素を明らかにし、最終的には、インスリン合成の全体像を明らかにする。これらの知見は、学術的に重要であるだけでなく、糖尿病の予防や治療の基盤となるだろう。
