Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
We detected mild motor impairment in patients with REM sleep behavior disorder using a finger tapping task. Analysis of dopamine transporter single-photon emission computed tomography revealed reduced dopaminergic function, particularly in the posterior putamen. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging further demonstrated alterations in the sensorimotor network, including reduced functional connectivity between the cortex and striatum and increased connectivity between the cortex and cerebellum. These findings constitute the neural basis underlying mild motor impairment. Additionally, handwriting tasks were found to be effective in detecting subtle motor dysfunction. Furthermore, longitudinal follow-up over more than two years suggested that mild motor impairment could serve as a potential clinical marker for identifying individuals in the early prodromal stages of neurodegenerative diseases.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
