Outline of Research at the Start

スキャニングビームを活用したイメージング手法を開発し、シンプルな検出システムを用いた臨床に必要な精度のスキャニング陽子線CT画像取得法を確立する。モンテカルロシミュレーションと実験により画像取得法を検討・改善し、空間分解能1 mm・画素値分解能1%を目指す。さらに、構築した陽子線CTイメージングにより実現される陽子線治療の線量集中性が向上することを定量的に示す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We developed a proton CT imaging system using a scanning proton beam to obtain higher image quality than conventional proton CT images using a broad beam. For this purpose, we proposed a method to solve the reproducibility of two-dimensional uniform irradiation distribution, which is a barrier when using scanning beams, developed a gating proton imaging method for moving targets, which is a problem with scanning beams, and developed a proton CT image correction method using a Bayesian convolutional neural network to improve image quality in proton CT images.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

陽子線治療の高精度化を実現するための陽子線CTが臨床利用されるためには、空間分解能、画素値精度、撮影時間、現実的に病院に設置可能な簡易さ、等の様々な条件をクリアする必要があり、まだ実現されていない。我々の研究グループでは短い撮影時間で撮影可能かつシンプルな検出システムを用いて、空間分解能や画素値精度を臨床利用可能なレベルにもっていくための研究開発を行っている。その1ステップとして、スキャニングビームを用いることによる陽子線CT画像の高画質化の開発を行った。また、臨床利用を見据えて、動きのある部位の陽子線CTやAIを利用した際に生じうる問題を解決する手法を提案した。
