| Outline of Research at the Start |
妊娠中の喫煙は、低出生体重や早産など様々な合併症のリスク因子とされている。本研究では妊娠期間中の母体喫煙や受動喫煙が母児の高血圧をはじめとする生活習慣病リスクにどのような影響を及ぼしているのか、日本全国を対象とした前向きコホート研究である「エコチル調査」の追加調査を継続して検討する。追加調査は参加する母児に対し家庭血圧計を送付し、2週間の家庭血圧の平均値を蓄積する。研究機関中の見込み参加者数は4年間で4,227人の予定である。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
An adjunct study to the "Japan Environment and Children's Study" was conducted to determine how maternal smoking during pregnancy affects Non-Communicable Diseases risk. 2-week home blood pressure measurements were requested during the 8-year-old school-age survey. A total of 1,709 mothers and 1,719 children participated in the HBP measurements. Maternal blood pressure tended to be highest among mothers who continued to smoke, while there were no significant differences in blood pressure levels among children according to smoking status. Meanwhile, day-by-day blood pressure variability showed significant group differences in mothers and children.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
妊娠中の母体喫煙が将来の母親自身の血圧や、母児の血圧日間変動に関連した。血圧の日間変動性は，血圧値そのものとは独立して認知症発症リスクと関連することが高齢者集団で報告されている。喫煙は、より若い時期での血圧変動を介し、将来の母児の不良な健康に関連することが懸念される。本研究成果をさらに分析し、長期的な関連の解明や早期の予防法の確立を通し、あらゆる世代の将来の健康につながる社会的な意義を有している。
