Outline of Research at the Start |
1) The standard edge computing (such as ETSI mobile edge) with several networking technologies will be upgraded to include the QoS provisioning and DLT-authorized algorithms. Following the application requirements, we expect to devise the edge with QoS-guaranteed and DLT, which efficiently manages computing and communication.
2) We target the efficient interaction between different edge entities with the deep considerations of both networking and computing aspects. We expect to propose new decentralized resource provisioning mechanisms for the edge in a scalable, elastic manner.

Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project has investigated the feasible adoption and two distributed ledger technologies (DLTs), Ethereum and IOTA, in mobile wireless networks, including the Internet of Things. First, we have evaluated and analyzed various performance parameters of such technologies in real settings, such as latency, throughput, recovery time, etc., aiming to characterize the fundamental performance units. Moreover, we use a theoretical approach to model and understand the DLT's performance on a significant scale. Second, we have introduced several practical prototypes: QoS-guaranteed wireless networks with mobile payments using distributed ledgers, IoT data exchange with micropayment, etc. In the former, the DLT seamlessly combines with SDN for QoS-guaranteed provision. In the latter, a new system and method for exchanging IoT data with benefits have been proposed.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
The research results will provide a new approach for realizing pay-as-you-go features in mobile wireless networks. Moreover, they will contribute to facilitating the sharing of IoT data with profits. Both of them will be expected to be widespread in Society 5.0.
