ヴァティカン図書館所蔵ギリシア語写本1927 番は、旧約聖書の『詩篇』を本文とし、100以上の豪華な図像を有する、12 世紀前半に制作されたとされる写本である。ビザンティン世界の詩篇写本には、旧約聖書である本文に対し、本文に記されない他の典拠に基づく挿絵を描く複雑な機能を持つ作例があるが、1927 番もまた他に類例のない多様な挿絵を持っている。本研究は、同写本に描かれた、詩篇著者とされる旧約の王ダヴィデが登場する箇所を中心に、同写本の全体像を明らかにするための基礎研究を目的とする。

Cod. Vat. gr. 1927 is one of the important manuscripts in the Byzantine world, which has many illustrations on psalms made in around the twelfth century. This research schemes for a comprehensive analysis of Cod. Vat. gr. 1927, especially focused on David representations and Christological illustrations.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまで系統立てた分析が行われてこなかった1927番の、キリスト伝と旧約物語場面が関連付けられて表象されている箇所を、写本本文および図像に関連するテキストと併せて分析、検討した。具体的には、旧約聖書と新約聖書の内容を、挿絵によって関連づけている箇所を明らかにすることで、中世における正教圏の神学的解釈を実証的に検討した。これは既に滅びてしまった国が遺した一冊の書物に過ぎないと思われるかもしれないが、カトリックとイスラームの狭間で千年間存続した帝国の思想の一端を探る具体的な研究である。
