Outline of Research at the Start

肺サーファクタントは肺の拡張を制御しているため、サーファクタントの産生低下や消失は呼吸困難を引き起こし、重篤な場合、死に至る。肺機能維持、サーファクタント産生調節に様々な脂質メディエーターが関与していることが示唆されているが、肺サーファクタントの産生調節機構については分かっていない。本研究は、PG類によるサーファクタントの産生調節機構および、分子制御機構に基づいた肺機能不全に対する新たな治療薬を探索する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We investigated the role of prostaglandin F2α(PGF2α) in lung inflammation. We showed that inhibition of PGF2α receptors exacerbate lung inflammation in mice.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

肺炎の治療には、抗生物質が広く用いられているが十分な効果を示さないことも多く、依然として日本において死因の上位を占める。本研究の成果は、肺炎を制御する新たな分子標的を提供することができ肺炎に対する新たな治療法ならびに治療薬の開発につながることが期待される。
