本研究では、高校の「外国語」の選択科目として「日本手話」を開設することを前提に、手話の言語学的な知識体系に基づき、英語の５領域を、視覚言語であり書記言語がない手話に対応させ、現行の外国語科目の準ずる形に組み替え、教科書及び指導書の試案を作成することを目的とする。その方法として、以下を行うこととする。①日本手話文法の系統化、②日本手話の特性を踏まえたカリキュラムの編成、③試作版の教科書作成、および指導書の試作版の作成、④学内での手話習得を含む講義での試行実践、および試作版の修正、⑤高校の手話サークル、ボランティアサークルでの試行実践、⑥試作版の教科書作成、および指導書の試作版完成

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, a textbook and curriculum were created to implement “Japanese Sign Language” as an elective subject in high school, and a trial implementation in high schools was conducted. ① We created a textbook for first-year university students, and after several modifications upon implementation at university, we developed a complete text that incorporated both grammar acquisition and project learning. ② We analyzed institutional challenges for the realization of a high school elective sign language course. It was suggested that following the curriculum of “Sign Language Service Worker Training” could lead to the training of a new generation of sign language interpreters. ③ Results of implementing sign language education in high school suggest that it is important to set clear goals that can be achieved in the three years of high school and construct a curriculum that is tailored to the academic awareness of high school students.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
学校教育の中での手話学習の多くは、小学校の総合的な学習の時間等での単発的な授業として行われており、手話スキル習得を意図した体系的な学習に繋がるものとなり得ていない現状がある。その中にあり、散発的ではあるが一部の高校で学校設定科目として実践されている手話の実践の現状分析を行いつつ、体系だった実践の実現に向けてカリキュラムを実践的に構築したことは、学校教育に適した体系的な手話教育のカリキュラム開発としての学術的意義があると同時に、手話通訳者の高齢化や聴覚特別支援学校教員の手話スキル不足といった課題がある中、手話に関わる専門職育成に繋がる若年層の手話習得の機会の開拓という点で大きな社会的意義がある。
