Outline of Research at the Start

米国・ドイツ・フランス・日本の国際共同研究により、非平衡輻射プラズマ粒子シミュレーションコードPICLSを開発する。研究代表者と各テーマを担当する分担者が相手先機関に直接出向き研究することが、本プロジェクトの中核を成す活動である。そしてPICLSコード開発を加速度的に進める。PICLSコードを活用し、最先端の強い光が作り出す非平衡プラズマの物性研究を学術目的とし、イオン加速・核融合反応・X線輻射・強磁場生成などの機能を引き出す。さらに大学院生・若手研究者を育成することで、PICLSコードの開発・運用を中心にした持続可能な国際ネットワーク環境を整備していくことが本国際共同研究の目的である。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、米国・欧州の研究者と国際共同研究を展開し、最先端レーザー光であるペタワットレーザーによる高エネルギー密度プラズマの形成過程を解明し、粒子加速などの物理の解明を目的とする。高強度レーザーと物質の相互作用に必要な物理モデル等を開発し、プラズマ粒子シミュレーションコードPICLSに組み込むことで、新たな現象を発見した。当該年度は、フランスボルドーで開催された欧州物理学会へ参加し研究成果を発表するとともに、ボルドー大学の共同研究者を訪ね研究成果について議論を行なった。また、高エネルギー密度プラズマの理論研究のワークショップを日本で開催し、米国カリフォルニア大学サンディエゴ校(A. Arefiev教授)、ボルドー大学(E. d’Humires教授)ほか、プロジェクトの共同研究者が集まり成果の共有を行なった。研究成果のうち、電子・陽電子対生成に関する物理モデルの構築とシミュレーション研究の成果は、Physical Review Lettersに発表した。また、米国ローレンスリバモア国立研究所に滞在し、同研究所の世界最大レーザー(NIF-ARC)を使った実験を分担者(岩田)がPIとして実施し、コード検証に必要なデータを取得した。実験データの解析及び理論を構築し、研究成果を論文としてまとめた。本研究により、PICLSコードにはメゾスケール加熱の物理及び、光子衝突による電子・陽電子対生成など新たな物理モデルを組み込むことに成功した。開発したシミュレーションコードを活用し、レーザー核融合の爆縮プラズマの加熱物理の解明を進め、高効率なレーザー核融合の道筋として提示した。研究成果は国際会議のキーノートスピーチとして報告した。また、大学院生をプロジェクト参加させることで、コード開発の知識を習得させ、また、国際共同研究の進め方などを経験させることで、将来の研究者として2名を参加させ支援した。
