Outline of Research at the Start

世界の中央海嶺が生み出す海洋地殻は多様な構造を示す.従来,この多様性は場所ごとの違い=空間変動として捉えられてきたが,最近では海洋地殻生産プロセスの時間変動が注目を集めている.本研究では,海洋地殻生産プロセスの時間変動は,それぞれ異なる要因に基づく異なる時間スケールの変動の重ね合わせであるとの仮説に立ち,3つの時間スケールの変動を海底観測によって捉え,変動の要因を考察し,マルチタイムスケール海洋地殻生産モデルを構築することを目的とする.そのため,モーリシャスの地球物理研究者と共同で中央インド洋海嶺中部における観測を実施し,両国の若手研究者の相互滞在を含め,共同で解析に取り組む.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

全体の研究計画のうち,主観測として位置付けていたモーリシャス研究者との共同航海がCOVID-19の影響で中止となったため,他の航海で取得されたデータ及び既存のデータを用いた解析を実施した.また,本研究費が,COVID-19の影響に対する特別措置で再々期間延長が認められ,かつ来年度(2024年度)の観測日程が確保されたため,観測実施に向けて準備を行った.
1)既存データの解析:長期変動については,インド洋域の既存データの解析から始新世の火成活動を明らかにし,海洋底拡大過程の変動について論文を出版した.短期変動については,次年度予定のインド洋観測で実施する高解像度磁場観測の準備として,同様の機材による観測データの詳細な年代決定を行い,学会発表を行った.
2)観測準備:2024年度に観測が実施できる見込みとなったため,深海曳航磁力計の整備,国際共同研究相手国であるモーリシャスへの許可申請等の準備を実施し,さらに東京大学大気海洋研究所とモーリシャスの担当機関(Dept. Continental Shelf, Maritime Zone Administration and Exploration)と連携協定を締結した.観測用の旅費は次年度のために残すこととした.

4: Progress in research has been delayed.

Reason

COVID-19の影響で,主たる観測が中心になったほか,当初計画していた若手研究者の派遣・招聘計画が大幅に遅れた.昨年度に,派遣・招聘については実施することができたが,観測航海は2024年度に実施が決まったため,現時点では当初計画の完遂には至っていない.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

来年度にインド洋観測が実施できる見込みで,総合的な地球物理観測によりマグマ生産量の変動を長期・短期の複数のタイムスケールで検討し,中央海嶺プロセスの時間変動を明らかにする.
