| Outline of Research at the Start |
近年、アフリカ各国で人口増加や経済成長により都市化が進み、スラムクリアランスや大規模開発に伴い歴史的街区が急速に失われている。しかしアフリカにおける都市や建築に関する研究は世界の他地域と比較して圧倒的に少なく、今後アフリカの都市性を尊重した都市計画を行う上でもそれらの研究は急務である。本研究はエチオピア・アジスアベバを研究対象としてアフリカの都市や建築の持続的利活用の方法を開発する。

| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
(1) Research of Armenian Sefer, Addis Ababa: Fieldwork was conducted as a joint work between Shibaura Institute of Technology, School of Architecture and Addis Ababa University, Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City development (EiABC)
(2) Japanese Tea House project in Addis Ababa: Photographic documentation was made before the restoration.
(3) Research on Sekota: presentation of the work from the previous fiscal year was made at EiABC.

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
In the first half of the fiscal year, the research team gathered and organized information on the historic district of Armenian Sefer in Addis Ababa. The team from Tokyo traveled to Addis Ababa in November 2022 and conducted fieldwork with the team in Addis Ababa. A presentation of Sekota was made at Addis Ababa University to share the outcome of the project.

| Strategy for Future Research Activity |
(1) Workshop in Tokyo: Research collaborators in Addis Ababa will come to Tokyo in July 2023 to discuss the research project.
(2) Research on Armenian Sefer: Fieldwork on the Armenian Sefer in November 2023.
(3) Promoting networks between Japanese and Ethiopian universities
(4) Sharing the output of the research work
