Research Abstract

本年度は、認知と運動の統合過程における高次運動野の機能解析を詳細に行った。特に、認知情報に基づく運動決定の段階と準備実行の段階に注目して解析を行った。抽象的な指示に基づいて動作決定を行うSymbolic Cue Taskと、空間的な様々な位置に提示される物体に到達するDirect Cue Taskを導入し、これら2つ課題を遂行中の被験体の運動前野から細胞活動を記録した。両課題間の活動を比較することによって、認知的要求度がより高いSymbolic Cue Task時の細胞活動が、Direct Cue Task時と比べてどのような活動特性を持つのかを特徴づけることができた。また、運動前野には背側部と腹側部があるので、これらの領野間の機能分化にも着目した。解析の結果、複数の特徴を細胞活動レベルで同定することができた。まず、運動の実行時には、両者の課題間で細胞活動の差はほとんどないということが明らかとなった。これは、異なった情報処理経路で同一の運動が規定された場合には、運動前野の細胞活動は情報処理経路にかかわらず結論として導き出された動作内容のみを反映することを示唆する。こうした特性は、運動前野の背側部と腹側部の両方に見出された。さらに、実際に動作が決定される瞬間の活動を調べたところ、運動前野の背側部においてSymbolic Cue Task遂行時にDirect Cue Task時に比べて活動が増大していることが分かった。一方で、運動前野の腹側部では両者の課題で細胞活動の程度に差はなかった。この結果は、運動前野の背側部が抽象的な動作指示内容に基づいた動作選択にかかわっていること、一方で、運動前野の腹側部はこの過程への関与が小さいことを示唆している。
