Research Abstract

本研究の目的は、超高強度短パルスレーザーと物質との相互作用で生成する高密度かつ短パルスのMeVプロトンビームを使用して、レーザー核融合爆縮プラズマをアクティブに診断するシステムを開発することである。ここで言うプロトンアクティブプローブとはプロトンーリチウム核反応、プロトンバックライトの診断を同時に可能とする診断法である。これによりレーザー核融合燃焼プラズマ研究に必要不可欠である高密度爆縮プラズマの形状、密度、電磁界の空間分布を調べることが可能となる。
このために、本年度、以下の項目を具体的に実施した。
・効率的なプロトンビーム生成ターゲット開発
効率的な高エネルギー密度プロトンビームを発生させるため、クラスターターゲットやエアロジェルターゲットによるプロトン生成実験を行った。またエアロジェルターゲットに関しては、4mg/ccを下回る臨界プラズマ密度以下を可能とする超低密度固体ターゲットを独自に開発した。(日本記録)
・プラズマミラーを用いたプロトンバックライト法の試験
プラズマ集光ミラーによりプロトンビームエネルギーを3-5倍以上増加させることができた昨年の成果をもとに、大阪大学FIREX計画用レーザーシステムに適したプロトンバックライトシステム確立に向けた予備テストを目的に大型PWレーザーで試験を行った。
・プロトンバックライトシステムの構築
これまでの成果をもとに、FIREX計画用レーザーシステムに適したプロトンバックライトシステムを整備した。
これによりプロトンーリチウム核反応、プロトンバックライトの同時診断が可能となりレーザー核融合燃焼プラズマ研究に必要不可欠である高密度爆縮プラズマの形状、密度、電磁界の空間分布を調べることが可能となる。
