Research Abstract

炭素第三の同素体であるフラーレンは、非平面の巨大π電子系分子である。そのフラーレンの内部に金属を取り込んだ金属内包フラーレンは、金属原子が中空空間に孤立して存在するという極めて特異な分子構造を有している。金属内包フラーレンの機能性分子への応用展開を目指す上で、14族元素を用いた化学修飾によりさまざまな機能を導入した誘導体を開発し、構造や物性を解明することは非常に重要である。
本研究では、常磁性の金属を内包させた金属内包フラーレンM_2@C_<78>(M=La, Ce)を大量合成し、種々の化学修飾による誘導体を合成するとともに、フラーレンおよび外側の置換基上14族典型元素との相乗的協同効果による電子的特性や磁気的特性の変化を解明することを目的とした。
C_<78>ケージに金属原子を二個内包した金属内包フラーレンCe_2@C_<78>の合成、単離に成功した。常磁性NMRスペクトル解析などにより炭素ケージの構造ならびに内包金属原子の局在位置を明らかにした。さらに、Ce_2@C_<78>のビスシリル化反応を行ない、フラーレンケージにシリル基を付加した誘導体の合成・単離に成功した。そのCe_2@C_<78>誘導体について、温度可変測定による詳細な常磁性NMRスペクトル解析を行い、また、誘導体の単結晶X線構造解析にも成功した。それにより、ビスシリル化体において、Ce_2@C_<78>の2つの内包金属原子は局在化していることが分かり、その局在位置についても明らかたした。さらに、Ce_2@C_<78>ビスシリル化体の酸化還元特性についても明らかにした。
