集光レーザーの光圧による新規光-分子強結合場の研究

Research Abstract

最近我々は、世界で初めて集光レーザービームの光圧のみでアミノ酸の結晶化に成功した。またその作製過程において、溶液の光吸収に起因した温度上昇による液面変形が同時に観測された。逆に、この液面変化が観察されない場合には、同じレーザー光強度であっても結晶化は観察されなかった。このように、液面変形を伴う場合、クラスターに対する光圧捕捉力がより増大していることが示唆された。この結果を踏まえ、我々は動的な液面変形と集光レーザーの光圧を融合することによる新規な「光-分子強結合場」を創製し、より微弱な光での光圧捕捉結晶化の実現を目的とし、種々レーザー照射条件での液面変形挙動を光干渉法により観察した。
連続発振近赤外レーザー光を、グリシン過飽和溶液の気液界面に集光すると、液面下降が観察された。そのままレーザーを照射し続けると、液面は下降し続け、液膜が数マイクロになるまで沈んだ。その後、液面は上昇に転じ、集光点をその動的な液面変形に追随して変化させると、ある一定の高さで液面変形は止まり、その後レーザーを照射し続けることにより結晶化が観察された。一般的に、溶液に点熱源があると液面の下降が誘起される事が知られており、この液面の上昇は光圧且つグリシン存在下でのみ観察される非常に特異的な現象であることを見出した。一方、液面変化を誘起されない系においては、同一レーザー光強度において結晶化が誘起されることはなかった。このように、光圧を動的な液面変形と融合させることにより、より微弱な光での結晶化を実現し、さらにその特異的な液面挙動の定性的観察にも成功した。現在この液面変形が、トラップ光の偏光特性にも依存しているという重要な知見を得つつある。
