Research Abstract |
We investigated roles of staphylococcal enterotoxin family molecules in infection, emesis and diarrhea. (1) TSST-1 played an important role in pathogenesis of Staphylococcus aureus infectio (2) Among SEA, SEC and TSST-1, SEA and SEC showed emesis-inducing activity but none of them revealed diarrhea-inducing activity. (3) TSST-1 suppressed autophagy formation in epithelial cells. (4) Vaccination with recombinant clumping factor A induced acquired host resistance to S. aureus infection in mice, depending on IL-17.
