Research Abstract |
Unit discharge profiles of several neuronal groups playing important roles in sleep-waking mechanisms were recorded in unanesthetized mice. The finding that, at state transitions, waking-promoting neurons showed activity changes before sleep-promoting neurons did suggests that, not inhibition by sleep-promoting neuron, but disfacilitation of waking-promoting neurons is the primary step of sleep initiation.
