Research Abstract |
Overall, this 3-year project underscores three major outcomes that may have significant impact contributing to the eventual use of low-intensity ultrasound for therapy, particularly cancer therapy. One is the successful sonotransfection resulting in growth inhibition of cancer cells in vitro and tumor growth in vivo. Another is sonodynamic therapy resulting in growth inhibition of cancer cells in vitro and tumor growth in vivo. In combination with antibiotic, sonodynamic therapy also enhanced antimicrobial effects. The other is the use of prolonged and repetitive exposure to low-intensity ultrasound, which resulted in inhibition of melanoma growth.
