Research Abstract |
This research compares Max Weber’s theory of religion with rival theories postulated by his contemporaries, including William James, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche, Georg Simmel, Kitaro Nishida and Karl Jaspers and investigates the processes and situations in which different approaches, such as philosophy, psychology and sociology of religion, were differentiated. Through these comparisons, this study has inquired into religion from various standpoints. This research also includes an investigation of the actual marginal notes made by Weber in those books which he owned and which now reside in the Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften in Munchen.
