Research Abstract |
The studies focus mainly on three types of grammatically exceptional English expression : NP+is+when/where/if-clause, independent nonrestrictive relative clauses, and nonrestrictive relative clauses that immediately follow their antecedents without commas or other kinds of boundary. By taking a pragmatic approach to those expressions, it has become clear that they can provide the hearer with appropriate interpretation by prompting the hearer to follow certain inference processes using context information available.
