Research Abstract |
The theme of this research is Ainu policies by prefectural governments during SANKEN IKKYOKU Period(1882-1886). The conclusions of the research are as follows: (1) The causes of starvation among the Ainu during these years were decrease in deer and prohibition of salmon fishing, which were results of policies by Kaitakushi(Colonial Department) and Sapporo Prefecture. (2) The measure against the starvation taken by Sapporo Prefecture was only agriculture promotion. (3) Correspondences to agriculture by Ainu were various. Further consideration is needed with regard to situation of each region, generations and gender.
