Research Abstract |
Meiosis is a special type of cell division that is required for production of gametes. How meiotic centromere functions are regulated and how meiotic chromosomes are properly segregated are not fully understood. In this study, we examined regulation of meiotic centromeres in fission yeast. We found that a DNA replication regulatory factor, Mrc1, plays a critical role in the centromere regulation and that we can evaluate their functions by analyzing centromere dynamics. We also found that physical association of homologous chromosomes contributes to proper chromosome segregation more substantially than preciously had been thought.
