Research Abstract |
(Purpus)Osteoprotegerin(OPG) is a decoy receptor for Receptor activator of NF-kB(RANKL), and act as RANK antagonist. In this study, the role of OPG/RANKL system in the pathogenesis of atherothrombosis was investigated. Using directional atherectomy(DCA) samples of angina pectoris patients(n=220), aspirated thrombi from coronary arteries of acute myocardial infarction(AMI) patients(n=100) and coronary arteries(n=60) from autopsy samples, we demonstrated that OPG/RANKL was overexpressed in the atherosclerotic lesions, and involved in the pathogenesis of atherothrombosis/acute coronary syndromes.
