Research Abstract |
Our aims were to determine whether camostat mesilate (600mg/day), a synthetic protease inhibitor, changes visceral pain sensitivity and gastrointestinal motility and whether these changes affect clinical symptom severity in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). As a result, camostat mesilate has no effect on visceral sensitivity, colonic motility or serum cytokines compared with placebo in IBS patients.
