Research Abstract

磁気記録は原理的な記録密度の限界を迎えつつあり,新規方式の開発が急務となっている.多値記録方式はビット占有面積を小さくすることなく記録密度を増大させることが可能であり,原理的に超高密度化に適しているが,その実現のためには記録の安定性に加えて,現行もしくは将来技術に対する整合性が不可欠である.本研究では,新原理に基づいた安定な多値記録方式の原理実証を目指す.当初の予定では,反強磁性体と強磁性体の界面に生ずる交換結合を利用した反強磁性体/強磁性体の積層構造型の媒体のみを対象としていたが,それに加えて,マイクロ波アシスト方式による多値記録の可能性についても併せて検討を行った.
まず良質な反強磁性エピタキシャル薄膜の形成条件の検討を行い,酸化物系として代表的なNiO,CoO,PtMnをMgO(100)基板上に単相成長させることに成功した.それらのエピタキシャル反強磁性薄膜と強磁性Coとの積層構造膜を作製し,その磁気特性ならびに交換結合の評価を行った.さらに微細加工技術によりナノスケールの加工を施すことにより,特性長と交換結合の相関についても検討を行った.次に,新規記録方式として注目されるマイクロ波アシスト方式の原理的な計算を行い,そのスイッチング機構について考察した.検討の結果,本手法ではマイクロ波周波数と外部磁場をパラメータとすることにより,十分に安定な多値記録方式として可能性があることが分かった.今後,マイクロ波アシストを用いた多値記録に適した媒体材料,構造などについて検討を進める予定である.
