Research Abstract

申請者を中心とした研究グループが見出した単結晶Pr:LuAGシンチレータは、高い阻止能、BGO比約3倍の発光量、早い減衰時定数が特徴であるが、その性能向上が限界に達しつつある現在、Pr:LuAGは透明セラミックス化することで確実に特性が向上することが予想される。単結晶Pr:LuAGでは、欠陥からの発光に起因する減衰の遅い成分が、PET等の高速応答が要求される装置開発において問題となってきたが、上述の申請者の研究室の柳田助教らの研究により、セラミックス化することで欠陥が光学測定において有意に検出できないほど低減させられることも明らかになっている。加えて、Pr:LuAGの作製には高融点が必要であり、単結晶作製においては技術的に困難な一面となるが、焼結法により作られるセラミックスでは、これは寧ろ作製時に有利な点となる。本研究においては、透明(透過率80%以上)セラミックスの開発に成功し、APD等の受光素子と合せて、放射線応答が発光量、エネルギー分解能共に現状の構成(単結晶LuAG+PMT)を凌駕することに成功した。
