Research Abstract |
We screened to identify novel muscle-derived factors that act on cardiovascular systems. We found that fibroblast growth factor-21 (FGF-21) and follistatin-like 1 (Fstl1) are a novel myokine that confers cardiovascular protection. Increasing in skeletal muscle mass, such as resistance training exercise, could be a useful treatment for cardiovascular diseases through production of cardiovascular protective myokines.
