Outline of Research at the Start |
Traditional building inspection procedures present large uncertainty in quantifying the damage after major seismic events. Therefore, they can significantly underestimate the state of health of a structure. To improve the current procedures, the use of sensors has been proposed in the last few years to diagnose the status of the building. Within this context, this research project aims at developing a structural health monitoring system that can estimate in real time the state of damage of a building, with the goal of improving the Japan emergency response after a major earthquake.
