Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
Focusing on the concept of deprivation amplification, which has been developed in health geography and social epidemiology, this study started with a comprehensive review of previous research on neighborhood effects on health and identified key challenges in the field. We then examined the potentials of various use of both objective and perceived indicators of neighbourhood environments by exploring their cross-sectional associations with related behaviors, stress levels, and health outcomes, thereby contributing to the advancement of research on neighborhood environments and health. Furthermore, aiming to develop historically informed health geography, we investigated the historical context of area deprivation in cross-sectional analyses and analyzed prospective epidemiological data and retrospective social surveys to demonstrate how the cumulative disadvantage of residential environments contributes to the formation of health disparities.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
