| Outline of Research at the Start |
いま、海面上昇によってオセアニア諸国に大きな変化が起こる時代において、人々がどう対処していくかという適応策が世界的な課題である。しかし、これまでの適応策立案や実施に当たっては、異なる環境や文化の島に暮らす住民に対して、適応策実施がどのような影響をもたらすかを事前に示すことには限界があった。地元住民や政府にとって、政策ごとに将来を予測できることは喫緊の課題である。そこで、「海面上昇適応策が、地域の環境と社会を変動させ、結果として健康（心の健康を含むwell-being）にどのように影響するか？」を解明することを目的とする。地元政府・地域社会が適応策を選び、将来に備えることに貢献する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Based on local surveys and literature research in Oceania, this study categorized the climate change impacts on local communities into the following areas: coastal erosion, coastal inundation, coastal flooding, inland flooding, water security, food security, and health and well-being. As for adaptation strategies: Ecological Approaches,Civil/Architecture Measures,Mechanical Solutions, Agricultural/Fisheries Practices, Information Technology, and Migratory Considerations. While global technologies can sometimes have unintended consequences at the local level, achieving sufficient impact without external assistance can be challenging. Significant societal changes may also adversely affect health and well-being. Large-scale migration often poses difficulties for local communities. Therefore, staying in place requires a thoughtful combination of global expertise and locally informed ecological techniques, all under appropriate governance.

人間活動による気候変動は「疑う余地がない」中で、オセアニアの島嶼国が海面上昇などの影響に対して、どのような適応策をとるかは世界的な問題である。本研究は、科学的研究成果と地域社会における事例を統合することで、今後多方面で活用できるように、適応策を類型化した。そして類型化に即して、将来に向けてのシナリオを検討した。研究成果は国際的な議論や、現地での政策に反映されるように共有した。
