Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、紫外発光ダイオード(UV-LED)を光源とする紫外線処理に着目し、飲用水処理と下水再生処理のそれぞれへの適用を検討する。飲用水へのUV-LED適用では、実験室規模の基礎的知見が蓄積されつつあることを踏まえ、集落や家庭での分散型処理を想定した実証試験を行う。一方、下水再生処理へのUV-LED適用は、着眼が新しく先行研究が乏しいため、実験室規模の基礎研究を中心に展開する。最後に、UV-LED素子や装置を開発するサプライサイド産業とUV-LED水処理技術にニーズをもつデマンドサイド産業を大学がつなぐ産学連携体の形成を働きかけ、日本が当該分野で世界をけん引する礎を築く。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

小規模分散型の飲用水処理技術として、UV-LED水処理装置の性能を実証規模で調査した。具体的には、集落水道や宅内給水栓など実際の適用場に近い環境において、長期的な実証試験を継続した。UV-LED装置を設置して数カ月から1年程度の長期連続試験を行いながら、月に2回程度の頻度で試料を採水・分析し、微生物不活化性能の経時変化や、装置内汚れの発生などを追跡した。これまでに国内多地点で実証試験を完了または着手した経緯があり、これらのデータを統合的に解析して、各地点に固有の現象と普遍的な現象を整理した。海外での実証試験がかなう社会状況が整い次第、タイ、ネパール、カナダの原水水質や規模の異なる海外の試験地を選定し、海外での実証試験開始のための候補地選定を行った。
下水再生処理へのUV-LED適用の有効性を検討するため、UV-LED照射による薬剤耐性菌および薬剤耐性遺伝子の制御について、実験室規模の基礎実験を行った。具体的には、薬剤耐性遺伝子を導入した形質転換大腸菌にUV-LEDを用いて紫外線を照射し、薬剤耐性大腸菌の紫外線耐性や、非耐性大腸菌への薬剤耐性遺伝子伝播効率の変化などを調べた。照射する紫外線の波長を変化させたり、照射する紫外線エネルギー量を多段的に変化させたりすることで、それら照射条件による影響を明らかにした。その後、実際の下水あるいは水環境中から単離された薬剤耐性菌を対象とする実験に着手し、UV-LED照射による薬剤耐性菌および薬剤耐性遺伝子の制御効果を検証した。
UV-LED技術に関する勉強会や意見交換の場を設け、研究成果を積極的に社会に発信し、特に実証試験に協力した住民や自治体に知見をフィードバックするため、セミナーを開催した。

Reason

小規模分散型の飲用水処理技術として、UV-LED水処理装置の性能を実証規模で調査することについて、国内でのUV-LED装置実証試験について当初の計画通り進んでいる。海外における実証試験は、当初予定から試験地域を変更したものの、変更後のタイ、ネパールにおいて協力体制ができており試験開始の見込みは立っている。
また、下水再生処理へのUV-LED適用の有効性を検討するための実験室での基礎実験については、当初の計画通りに実施した。
研究成果の発信については、研究者だけではなく、一般に公開したセミナーを行った。
上記より、研究はおおむね順調に進展している。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

小規模分散型の水処理技術として、UV-LED水処理装置の性能を実証規模で調査する。具体的には、集落水道など実際の適用場に近い環境において、長期的な実証試験を継続する。数カ月から1年程度の長期連続試験を行い、性能の経時変化や、装置内汚れの発生などを追跡する。これまでに国内多地点で実証試験を実施した知見を統合的に解析して、各地点に固有の現象と普遍的な現象を整理する。海外での実証試験を行う。
有力な候補地として、すでにタイ(バンコク郊外)およびネパール(カトマンズ郊外)の試験地を選定しており、本年度内に実証試験の開始を目指す。加えて、カナダで類似の視点から実証研究を行っている研究者との既存の連携体制をいっそう強化し、定期的な情報交換を行う。飲用水の処理に限定せず、水産養殖水や産業用水など、より多様な水処理の現場を対象とする。
下水再生処理へのUV-LED適用の有効性を検討するため、UV-LED照射による薬剤耐性菌および薬剤耐性遺伝子の制御について、実験室規模の基礎実験を行う。具体的には、薬剤耐性遺伝子を導入した形質転換大腸菌にUV-LEDを用いて紫外線を照射し、薬剤耐性大腸菌の紫外線耐性や、非耐性大腸菌への薬剤耐性遺伝子伝播効率などを調べる。薬剤耐性遺伝子(プラスミド)のUV-LEDによる形態変化も併せて詳細に調査する。
産官学の垣根なくUV-LED技術に関する勉強会や意見交換の場(プラットフォーム)を設け、技術の理解を深める。研究成果を積極的に社会発信し、国内外に知見を広める。
