Outline of Research at the Start

蓄熱材料には、固体-液体相転移の転移熱を利用する潜熱蓄熱材料と、余熱を利用する顕熱蓄熱材料があるが、いずれの場合も熱エネルギーを長時間保存することはできず、時間経過に伴い自然に放出されてしまう。もし、蓄熱したエネルギーを長時間保存でき、望みのタイミングで取り出すことができれば、再生エネルギーとしての有効利用が可能となる。本研究では物理化学に立脚して、“長期蓄熱固体”という概念を確立し、物質科学分野において新機軸を立てることを目的とし、第一原理計算、統計熱力学に基づいた巨大な温度ヒステリシスを有する相転移物質の設計・合成、また、外部刺激による熱エネルギーの取り出しに関する研究を推進する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

電荷移動錯体として、コバルト(II)イオン、オクタシアノタングステン(V)酸イオン、セシウムイオン、4-ブロモピリジンを用いてシアノ架橋型コバルト-タングステン錯体を合成した。本錯体の粉末X線回折パターンをリートベルト解析することにより、その結晶構造が層状構造を有し、層間に含まれるオキソニウムカチオンが一部セシウムイオンに置換されていることを明らかにした。磁化率の温度依存性においては、室温を跨ぐ温度ヒステリシスを示し、室温において高温相と低温相の双安定性を示すことを見出した。また、磁化率、紫外可視吸収スペクトル、赤外吸収スペクトル、結晶構造から、高温相はコバルト(II)-タングステン(V)の電荷状態、低温相はコバルト(III)-タングステン(IV)の電荷状態を有することを明らかにした。本錯体は、室温付近において、赤色の高温相、青色の低温相と顕著な色彩変化を示す稀有な固体相転移物質である。示差熱量分析およびスリックター・ドリッカマーモデルを用いた解析を行い、転移エンタルピー、転移エントロピーを求めたところ、これまでに報告されているシアノ架橋型コバルト-タングステン錯体に比べて、大きな値を有することがわかった。また、常磁性体の低温相に緑色の励起光を照射すると強磁性体に相転移し、その強磁性相に赤色の光を照射すると元の常磁性の低温相に相転移すること明らかにし、本錯体が常磁性と強磁性をスイッチング可能な光可逆磁性体であることを示した。この光照射に伴う相転移は、コバルト(III)-タングステン(IV)の電荷状態を有する低温相とコバルト(II)-タングステン(V)の電荷状態を有する相の間の可逆的な相転移であり、光照射によっても、赤‐青色の顕著な色彩変化を示すことを確認した。この他に、テラヘルツ領域の電磁波を吸収する鉄錯体や第二高調波発生を示すチオシアネート鉄錯体の合成に成功した。

Reason

室温において双安定性を示す電荷移動錯体を新規に合成し、低温相と高温相の電荷状態、低温領域における光可逆磁性を見出したことは重要であり、錯体を基盤とした外部刺激応答性を有する蓄熱材料への展開が期待できる。また、テラヘルツ領域の電磁波を吸収する鉄錯体(Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., 2023, 62, e202214673)や第二高調波発生を示す鉄錯体の合成にも成功し、多様な機能性錯体の構築に関して知見を得ており、今後、スピンクロスオーバーや電荷移動相転移との複合化により、新しい外部刺激応答性相転移物質への展開も期待できる。以上より、おおむね順調に進展していると言える。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

コバルトタングステン錯体やマンガンヘキサシアノ鉄錯体を軸として、有機配位子の変換および金属置換により温度ヒステリシスを有する電荷移動相転移錯体を合成する。コバルトタングステン錯体においては、π共役を拡張した有機配位子を導入することにより、分子間相互作用としてπ-π相互作用を取り入れ、電荷移動相転移の制御や光応答性の変化を検討する。光による電荷移動相転移は、紫外可視分光、磁化率測定、赤外分光により追跡する。単結晶が得られる場合には、相転移前後の単結晶X線構造解析を行い、磁化率温度依存性に見られる変化と結晶構造の変化を比較し、相転移挙動と構造の関係性を明らかにする。また、コバルト周りの配位子場を制御することにより、電荷移動相転移を制御できると考えられるため、有機配位子の種類だけでなく、コバルトに配位する有機配位子の数が異なる錯体の合成を試みる。さらに、配位子場が変化することにより、コバルト-タングステン間の電荷移動吸収帯の波長がシフトすると考えられ、それに伴う光応答性の変化を観測する。一方、マンガンヘキサシアノ鉄錯体においては、金属置換による相転移挙動の制御を行うとともに、圧力印加に伴う相転移の観測を行う。また、第一原理計算より、転移エンタルピー、転移エントロピーを求め、実測の熱量との比較を行う。マンガンヘキサシアノ鉄錯体の相転移挙動を圧力下磁化率測定、比熱測定、X線回折測定、赤外分光などから明らかにする。圧力下磁化率測定においては、段階的に圧力を変化させたときの転移温度のシフトと温度ヒステリシス幅の変化を評価する。
