Outline of Research at the Start

本研究提案では、我々が持つ世界最高峰技術と世界最先端技術を連動させた新しいセンサーデバイスパラダイムを開発する。検体(ゲスト)分子を認識する単分子膜と高分子半導体薄膜を張り合わせて FET (Field Effect Transistor) などのセンサー表面に固定化する。検体分子が認識単分子膜に捕捉されるとドーパントイオンが高分子半導体にイオン交換で高濃度に注入され、その導電性が絶縁性(あるいは半導体性)から金属導電性に変換されるというメカニズムを用いる。わずかな量のターゲット分子が存在すると物質の導電性を劇的な変化引き起こす超高感度センサーという、これまでにないセンシング方式を開拓する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究提案では、我々が持つ世界最高峰技術と世界最先端技術を連動させた新しいセンサーデバイスパラダイムを開発する。検体(ゲスト)分子を認識する単分子膜と高分子半導体薄膜を張り合わせて FET (Field Effect Transistor) などのセンサー表面に固定化する。検体分子が認識単分子膜に捕捉されるとドーパントイオンが高分子半導体にイオン交換で高濃度に注入され、その導電性が絶縁性(あるいは半導体性)から金属導電性に変換されるというメカニズムを用いる。わずかな量のターゲット分子が存在すると物質の導電性を劇的な変化引き起こす超高感度センサーという、これまでにないセンシング方式を開拓する。本研究は、特定ターゲットの検出を高感度に行う、センシングのチャンピオンデータをだすという、技術的な側面を追及するものではない。分子の特異認識と物質の導電性を制御するという二つの代表的な分子現象を連動させて、外部刺激を人工的なデバイスに送り込むという、大きなパラダイムを創成することを目的とする。本研究は、特定ゲストに特定されたセンサーシステムやセンサー感度の数値目標の達成を目的とするものではないが、下記のような具体的な目標を立てたうえで研究する。生活・環境・医療に対して重要な評価指針となる化学物質、特に河川や湖沼の富栄養化をもたらす汚染物質にもなるリン酸塩、がん細胞で過剰に生産されるATPあるいはDNA、ヌクレオチドなどの生体重要物質をターゲットにしたセンサー系を開発する。本年度は、高分子半導体(poly[2,5-bis(3-tetradecylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene] (PBTTT))の超薄膜に対して、室温下、水溶液中という、従来にない画期的な新しいドーピング法の開発に成功し、成果を Nature 誌に報告した (Nature 622, 285-291 (2023))。

Nature 誌に論文が発表されるなど、多数の論文発表がなされている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

前年度は、高分子半導体(poly[2,5-bis(3-tetradecylthiophen-2-yl)thieno[3,2-b]thiophene] (PBTTT))の超薄膜高分子半導体薄膜へのドーピングコントロールを検討した。特に、膜外の酸解離現象とドーピングをカップリングし、pH によって導電性を精緻に制御できる薄膜系を開発することに成功した(Doping of molecular semiconductors through proton-coupled electron transfer, Nature 622, 285-291 (2023))。これをもとにプロトタイプの pH センサーを開発しつつあるので、本年度はそれを完成化させ、本研究提案の課題である認識リレードーピングメカニズムに基づくセンサーの作製を実証する。それに加えて、他に認識系への応用についても検討する。
