Outline of Research at the Start

「低線量率放射線による慢性被ばくは人体にどのような影響をもたらすのか?」、「公衆への線量寄与が大きいラドンの吸入はどのような内部被ばくを引き起こしているのか?」 の学術的問いに対して工学的な視点から取り組む。実環境に存在する放射性微粒子の性状を忠実に復元した模擬環境を構築して、放射性微粒子の呼吸気道内における動態を実験的に評価する。さらに、X線CTデータに基づいた日本人の呼吸気道の形態を再現した呼吸気道ファントムを作製し、日本人に適した緻密な模型によって評価し、内部被ばくメカニズムの一端の解明に迫る。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

放射線内部被ばくの環境を明らかにするための実環境における放射性微粒子データの取得、およびコンピュータ断層撮影像(CTデータ)から呼吸気道の形態学的情報の取得をした。
実環境における放射性微粒子データの取得では、エアロゾルモニタを用いてナノ・メートルサイズからマイクロ・メートルサイズの微粒子の粒径分布を測定するとともに、放射性微粒子の放射能中央径を評価した。測定地点は北海道、青森県、福島県、鹿児島県、沖縄県とし、道路上、海岸、森林、観光用洞窟、活火山近傍、温泉など様々な環境で測定を行った。これらの測定地点では、放射能中央径は20 nmから300 nmの範囲であった。粒径分布は概ね2峰性を示したが、海岸や、内陸地点でも降雨後は1峰性の分布を示した。降雨後については、ウォッシュアウト効果により10 nmオーダーの微粒子が除去された結果、約200 nmの放射能中央径となる1峰性の粒径分布になったと考えられた。
呼吸気道形状に関する評価では、前年度に引き続き、弘前大学附属病院の協力によりCTデータを取得し、呼吸気道の形状を特徴づける気管の断面積や分岐角等を画像から計測した。解析対象は、11歳から82歳の男女86例(男36例、女50例)であった。断面積については、男女間では大きな差は概ね認められなかったが、放射線防護委員会が採用する呼吸気道モデルと比較して日本人の気管の断面積は大きい傾向にあった。分岐角については、男女間で明らかな差は認められなかった。解析結果の信頼性を確保するために3名が同じCTデータを用いて解析し統計分析した結果、有意な差を認めなかった。以上の結果を踏まえ今までに取得した呼吸気道の形態学的情報を基に、3Dプリンタを用いて呼吸気道の模型を試作した。

Reason

実環境における放射性微粒子データの取得では、前年度から調査地点数を拡大させ、北海道から沖縄県までの大規模都市圏、小規模都市圏、海岸、山間部、活火山近傍、温泉など日本の地理的特徴を踏まえて微粒子の粒径分布を取得し、放射能中央径を評価するなど、計画通りに研究が進捗していると評価できる。呼吸気道形状の分析では、新型コロナ感染症の終息に伴い症例数を前年度の16例から86例へ大幅に増やすことができ、呼吸気道の模型を試作することができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

実環境で取得した放射性微粒子のデータセットを基に、物理学的線量評価モデルを用いて線量換算係数を算出し、日本の特徴的な地理的環境による線量換算係数の分布を評価する。また、病院の協力を得て呼吸気道の形態学的情報の取得を継続するとともに、呼吸気道の模型を曝露装置内で放射性微粒子に曝露させ、呼吸気道の形状が放射性微粒子の気道内への沈着に与える影響を実験的、モデル計算的に明らかにする。
