Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
To elucidate climate change in Japan since the Last Glacial Period, we conducted drilling of speleothems in caves in the Okinawa region and successfully obtained high-resolution, long-term paleoclimate records. A notable achievement was acquiring a 90,000-year record from Minami-Daito Island, dated with U-Th methods at high precision. Oxygen isotope analyses revealed regional expressions of East Asian monsoon variability. Fluid inclusion analysis of another Holocene stalagmite revealed multi-decadal cooling episodes likely linked to volcanic eruptions. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of past climate dynamics in the subtropical Northwest Pacific.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
