| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は琉球沖永良部語を中心に、地域言語の記録保存と継承保存を並行して進め、消滅危機言語の保存という社会課題を解決するプロジェクトである。琉球諸語は2000年代後半から言語の記述が進められているが、談話資料などの言語の記録や話者人口の維持、つまり言語の継承保存の研究は遅れている。本研究は言語の記録と継承を目的とした各種の個別プロジェクトを地域言語コミュニティと研究者が協働して行うことで、地域言語コミュニティが自分たちの手で自分たちの言語を記録・継承する力を習得し、持続可能な言語の保存を目指す。また沖永良部島以外での個別プロジェクト実践による共有知の抽出も行い、総合的な消滅危機言語研究を行う。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Throughout the research period, we offered a course at the China Town Central Community Center in collaboration with China Town (Okinoerabu Island) to raise citizen scientists who are capable of documenting their own dialects. Vocabulary data for various dialects collected by course participants during research training sessions has been published as an online dictionary with audio. Furthermore, as an outcome, some participants independently established a research team and an editorial team and began collecting data for a dictionary of their dialects.

言語記録トレーニングを提供することで地域言語コミュニティメンバーがじぶんたちの手でじぶんたちの方言を記録することができるようになったことは、学術的にも社会的にも意義がある。地域言語コミュニティと協働して行う記録保存・継承保存の先駆的な事例であり、国内の消滅危機言語研究の発展に貢献する成果である。
